The Co-Founders Notebook - Like fine wine, great businesses aren’t rushed
Having recently spent some time in the beautiful vineyards across the Western Cape of South Africa, I discovered the real effort and time it takes to make a bottle of wine.
From first planting the seed, it’s at least 3 years until it produces a grape ready to harvest and turn into a beautiful bottle of Chardonay. In the world that we currently live in, 3 years is a very long time.
Imagine having your first discussion with a client and it takes 3 years to bring them on board and finally see a return on your investment. All the time invested, costs of producing decks, prototypes, onboarding… you would seriously question if this was even worth it?
And who’s to say, when you finally produce that bottle of wine, it might taste awful!
One thing I have discovered about growing Welf is it takes time. And I don’t mind that. I would rather wait those 3 years to ensure I have a nice tasting bottle of wine, than rush and end up with a business I don’t like the taste of.
Like fine wine, great businesses aren’t rushed. They’re crafted with patience, passion and the courage to let time reveal their true value.
Until next time,
Paul – One half of Welf
