P11D Filing & Benefit in Kind Deadlines: What Employers Need to Know in 2025

As the new tax year progresses, it’s vital for UK employers to stay on top of their obligations regarding P11D forms and Benefits in Kind (BIK). At Welf Accountants, we understand that tax compliance can be complex, so we’ve broken down what you need to know to ensure you’re fully prepared and avoid unnecessary penalties.

What Is a P11D?

A P11D form is submitted to HMRC to report any Benefits in Kind (BIKs) provided to employees or directors during the tax year. These are non-cash benefits such as:

  • Company cars and fuel

  • Private medical insurance

  • Interest-free loans

  • Living accommodation

  • Gym memberships

These benefits are not included in standard PAYE payroll, so the P11D ensures HMRC is aware of any additional taxable value employees receive.

Who Needs to File a P11D?

If your business provides taxable benefits to employees or directors, you’re required to:

  • File a P11D for each relevant employee or director

  • Submit a P11D(b) form to report the total Class 1A National Insurance due on those benefits

Key P11D Deadlines for 2025

Here are the important dates to add to your calendar:

  • 6 July 2025: Deadline to submit P11D and P11D(b) forms to HMRC

  • 6 July 2025: Deadline to give a copy of the P11D to each relevant employee

  • 22 July 2025: Deadline to pay any Class 1A NIC (if paying electronically)

  • 19 July 2025: Deadline to pay Class 1A NIC (if paying by post)

Missing these deadlines could result in penalties and interest charges, so it’s crucial to act promptly.

Payrolling Benefits: An Alternative to P11Ds

Did you know you can payroll your benefits instead of filing a P11D? This allows you to tax most BIKs through your payroll system each month. If you choose to do this, you must register with HMRC before the start of the tax year (i.e. by 5 April 2025 for the 2025/26 tax year).

Payrolling reduces admin at year-end and gives employees greater transparency about their tax deductions.
